Calvin continues to grow and change – we think he’s going through a growth spurt because all of a sudden he’s ravenous every 2 hours and he does feel heavier. Our scale rounds to the nearest half pound so we only get an approximate weight for him, but he weighs 13.5 pounds on our scale now.  He hasn’t shown a lot of interest in toys, yet, but I noticed that when he has a bib on he’ll grab it and shove it towards his mouth, so I’ve been putting toy in his car seat with him some of the time and he’ll do the same with that. He’s also starting to self-soothe a tiny bit – instead of the binky, he’ll suck on his fists and can sometimes calm himself down that way, which is really nice.

This week I went back to work full time and Eric is now home full time with Calvin. It’s a big change for all of us, but the transition went pretty well and I know we’re really fortunate that one of us is able to stay home with the baby. For me, Tuesday morning was the low point – having to leave again after having been gone all day Monday was really hard. But Eric brought Calvin up to see me for lunch on Tuesday and Friday, so I got my baby fix and that helped a lot. Calvin and Eric did pretty well at home, too – there were some low points, but overall Calvin handled the adjustment really well, and Eric has already figured out some new tricks. It’s sometimes hard to get Calvin to stay asleep during the day unless you hold him. Eric discovered that if we sit on the couch and hold Calvin until he’s sound asleep, then put him down on the couch where we were sitting, he will often stay asleep and sleep really well. He likes that warm butt print, I guess!

Calvin is 11 weeks old today. He gets more alert and fun all the time. A couple of weeks ago we got some more portraits taken – here are a couple of the best shots:

He also got some pictures with his visiting grandparents:

Since he’s so alert, we’ve been holding him facing out so he can look around more. I’ve also tried propping him up with the boppy pillow. He seemed to like it, even though he tended to slip sideways:

I’ll be back at work full time starting Monday, and Eric is staying home with Calvin. I’m definitely nervous –  I know I am going to miss him a lot. It helps to know he’ll be home with his dad, but it’s going to be a big transition for all of us. Wish us luck!

At nearly 10 weeks, we’re starting to see some more changes in Calvin. He’s spending more time awake and happy during the day, which is a lot of fun. He talks and squawks a lot and smiles like crazy, but he’ll also just hang out and be mellow. He’s also giving us longer stretches of sleep at night, although it’s still not consistent. Last night he actually went 7 hours between feedings! Of course, he fell asleep at 9:00, so I still had to get up at 3:30 am, but it was great to get a significant amount of sleep in one go. I’m just spending as much time as I can enjoying him before I go back to work on the 23rd.

Yesterday we got to see Victoria and Parker, and meet Abner for the first time. Victoria and I worked together until she moved away, but have kept in touch and since we were pregnant at the same time we have been able to compare notes a lot and encourage each other through the pregnancy, birth and baby experiences. I loved having a friend going through the same things at the same time (actually, she was a month ahead of me, so I got the benefit of her experience). It was so great to see them all, even for just a quick visit! I hope we can get these boys together again soon.

Victoria was talking about starting a new mommy blog called “Things I Wish I Had Known” – I think it’s a great idea! Get it going, V, and I promise I’ll contribute.

One of Calvin’s favorite things is to be naked – when he gets really fussy we just take off his clothes and put him on a towel on the floor and that almost always cheers him up. He’ll get very smiley and talkative – lots of coos and squawks. He also scoots himself around by pushing off with his feet. He’ll push himself right off the towel if we don’t keep an eye on him. I tried to capture some of his “talking” on video, but when he sees the camera he tends to quiet down. Still, there’s a little bit on here – apologies for the poor video quality.

It’s been a busy week. We spent the weekend hanging out with extended family – both of Eric’s parents were here from Florida, so we got lots of family together to see them and see Calvin. Calvin also got to see my friend Kris who drove down from Altadena to meet him. We went to lunch and walked on the beach trail and caught up – it was great!

We had a big plumbing issue this week – our main drain line was clogged, so we couldn’t use sinks, toilets or laundry for about a day and a half. Thankfully, my mom has an extra room so we hauled the pack-n-play over to her house and camped out until everything was fixed. Thanks, mom!

Eric’s dad is still in town, so Calvin’s been able to see his Grandpa Butch most days. Yesterday we all met Eric for lunch – picked up some Fatburgers and went down to Leslie Park in San Clemente to look at the ocean. It’s a tiny little park on the bluffs, and is mostly used by surfers coming to check the waves. It was an absolutely gorgeous day yesterday, perfect for a picnic.
